4 Ways to Reduce Virgin Plastic Material

More Sustainable Plastic Options

We work with clients to find custom blends that suit their needs, often resulting in 100% PCR products. We also help develop closed-loop systems for packaging. We are now working with new, innovative materials such as water-soluble PVOH and hemp bioplastics to make food contact safe products specifically for the cannabis industry.

PET

PET is the most common type of recycled plastic. Unlike PET, many plastics can not be recycled without labour intensive sorting and processing.  PET is commonly used in beverage bottles due to its great barrier properties.

PVOH

Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVOH) is water soluble and provides good barrier properties. When dissolved, natural bacteria consume the remaining polymers. PVOH is commonly used with laundry detergent packages, but can now be used in more ridged applications.

HEMP

As a natural by-product, hemp is a great way to reduce the amount of plastic material needed for products. Depending on budget and product constraints, hemp may take the place of up to 25% of material in polypropylene products. Hemp can also be combined with polylactic acid (PLA) to form 100% plant based, compostable products.

PCR (PP / HDPE)

100% Post Consumer Recycled (PCR) polypropylene or high density polyethylene can be used to create child resistant packaging.
